Post-Op

The Day after my surgery, I had a follow-up appointment at 8:30 AM.  Again, I had to have someone else drive me, which my daughter's husband was kind enough to do.  When I got into the examination room, the first thing that was done is the clear plastic shield, and the eye patch were removed from my eye.  Then there was some kind of salve on my eye that had to be removed with a cue tip.  After my eye was all cleaned up, they checked the pressure in my eye, and it was good.  After that,  I was asked to read the eye chart with my right eye.  I don't know how many lines down I read, but at was at least to the fourth line, maybe the fifth.

Then I was given a little purple bag with more of the three kinds of eye drops I had to do for pre-op preparation, with instructions for times to put them in my eye.  I also got a new kind of plastic shield with tape to put over my eye during sleep for the next two weeks.  The eye drop schedule is pretty rigorous for the next few days, until the 2nd follow-up appointment.  Today, is Wednesday as I am writing this, and my 2nd post-op appointment is next Monday.  During that time, I have to put drops in my eyes every 2 hours from 9 AM until 9 PM.  In the morning and at bed time, I put all three kinds of drops in with 5 minutes in between each type.  At 11 AM, 3 PM, and 7 PM, I put in only one kind of eye drop and at 1 PM and 5 PM I put in two kinds of eye drops.

The reason I have written about this procedure, is because maybe someone who has to have this done and has any fears or doubts will read this.  Let me assure you, that the procedure IS totally painless (except for the IV needle initially).  The eye drops are kind of an inconvenience, but I can see really well out of my right eye now without even glasses, and it will be even better when I get my next glasses prescription.  My other eye is now where near as bad as my right eye was, but it too is deteriorating.  So, I am anxiously looking forward to having the cataract removed from my left eye in the very near future.
